elevateHER is seeking an enthusiastic Outdoor Mentor to support our middle and high school programs through hands-on outdoor adventure, mentorship, and wellness-focused programming. This role works closely with our Program Coordinator and staff team to deliver high-quality, youth-centered experiences, including climbing, skiing, hiking, and overnight trips, while building strong, supportive relationships with young women in grades 6–12. The ideal candidate is reliable, adaptable, passionate about the outdoors, and available to work Friday and Sunday as part of our core program schedule during the school year.

Job Description 

elevateHER is a 501c(3) located in Chaffee County, Colorado that uses a three tiered programming approach – Outdoor Adventure, Mentoring and Wellness - to empower young women living in the greater upper Arkansas River Valley. 

The Outdoor Mentor will work to support the Program Coordinator, other Outdoor Mentors and the Executive Director in providing high-quality outdoor programming and experiential learning for young womxn grades 6 - 12. 

All staff roles at elevateHER are multi-faceted. We expect our staff to behave ethically, be reliable, build relationships, communicate effectively, apply creativity and innovation to problem solving, foster teamwork, make well-informed decisions, and be well organized. 

Typical outdoor programming activities may include but are not limited to: rock climbing, rafting, hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, and overnight trips. elevateHER also integrates soft skill building into all activities. These include empathy, compassion, communication, organization, and problem-solving. elevateHER also focuses on building each participant's leadership and resilience with a goal for all graduates to have gained outdoor industry employability skills. 

Areas of Responsibility 

● Aid in planning and delivery of elevateHER programs and its activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization. 

● Ensure program activities and participants operate within the policies and procedures of the organization. 

● Help to identify and evaluate the risks associated with outdoor program activities and take appropriate action to mitigate identified risks. 

● Assist the Program Coordinator in implementing leadership and wellness Curriculum. 

● Mentor program participants and build strong, healthy relationships with each girl based on mutual trust and respect. 

● Be a liaison to guardians of program participants and be willing to answer questions regarding program scheduling and logistics. 

Requirements/Qualifications 

● Reliably available to work on Friday and Sunday during the school year.

● Interest in sharing your passion for the outdoors with youth. 

● High School Diploma or GED. 

● Experience (personal or professional) in the outdoors. 

● Current First Aid/CPR certification or higher. 

● Valid Driver’s License and willingness to drive our 15 passenger van. 

● Excellent communication and organization skills. 

● Ability to make decisions in a stressful or fast paced environment. 

● Ability to multitask, solve problems through critical thinking, and work with a team. 

● Willingness to accept feedback and adapt accordingly. 

● Flexible and able to adapt to changing schedules and circumstances. 

● Brings a professional and positive attitude to the job each day. 

● Passionate about empowering young women and empathetic toward a variety of home circumstances. 

Location 

Our basecamp is located in Nathrop but we travel all over Chaffee County, surrounding areas and occasionally across Colorado. 

Compensation 

$17.00 per hour base. Possible merit and annual increase for retention.
